Millions of fire extinguishers end up in unauthorized dumps or landfills due to improper disposal. However, common disposal practices cause severe environmental damage:
• Soil and Water Contamination (Leaching): Burial does not neutralize the hazard. Its main component, monoammonium phosphate, leaches out with rainwater, causing soil acidification and aquifer eutrophication.
• Atmospheric Pollution: Incineration releases highly harmful gases, such as toxic ammonia, affecting air quality.
